Strategic leaders often need help with process issues such as\u00a0waste, quality, inconsistency, and continually falling through the cracks, all symptoms of processes at low maturity levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2e6aea8833411d8848a7eeb20d74e3e4\">If we can identify, understand, and diagnose essential processes with low maturity levels, we can start to fix them and improve our overall efficiency and effectiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b991feeb0e4ab744cf8cf55ab8a346c2\">\ud835\uddea\ud835\udddb\ud835\uddd4\ud835\udde7 \ud835\uddd4\ud835\udde5\ud835\uddd8 \ud835\udde3\ud835\udde5\ud835\udde2\ud835\uddd6\ud835\uddd8\ud835\udde6\ud835\udde6 \ud835\udde0\ud835\uddd4\ud835\udde7\ud835\udde8\ud835\udde5\ud835\udddc\ud835\udde7\ud835\uddec \ud835\udddf\ud835\uddd8\ud835\udde9\ud835\uddd8\ud835\udddf\ud835\udde6?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7201d0f4ac65ec0c4e0feb53788e3583\">Process maturity levels are different maturity states of a process, which serve as a helpful aid to reference the maturity of a particular method and the next level of maturity for a procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-698a29802d039b417416453d75e013ab\">The five levels of process maturity are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-deb5e891eda27fa36b9a1c2b67d53042\">\ud835\udddf\ud835\uddf2\ud835\ude03\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf9 \ud835\udfed \u2013 \ud835\udddc\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddf6\ud835\ude01\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddf9 (\ud835\uddd6\ud835\uddf5\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddfc\ud835\ude01\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddf0)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-38f512ed595922314a5393f7967d0145\">Level 1 processes are ad hoc, often chaotic, uncontrolled, and poorly documented.<br>In a new organization, we often find many Level 1 processes. They are typically critical processes that aren&#8217;t a focus of everyday work, so they slip through the cracks. Quickly make someone responsible for essential Level 1 processes and have them map the process and create a standard operating procedure (SOP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-450818ca156730f8ef89d4e21fc50891\">\ud835\udddf\ud835\uddf2\ud835\ude03\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf9 \ud835\udfee \u2013 \ud835\udde5\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddfd\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddee\ud835\ude01\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddef\ud835\uddf9\ud835\uddf2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1efaa1833274087a365323ae664cc6ee\">Level 2 processes are typically repeatable, sometimes with consistent results. The process knowledge usually resides in a person&#8217;s head. It probably is not well-defined and lacks discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9881ed90fef6835e7fe01fd0528fb545\">We&#8217;ll often come across Level 2 processes that are the domain of a gatekeeper, who thinks they&#8217;ll create job security if they need to learn how they do a specific process. Quickly remedy the situation by having them document and start improving the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d1fe50289f448a719a9693e040465cea\">\ud835\udddf\ud835\uddf2\ud835\ude03\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf9 \ud835\udfef \u2013 \ud835\uddd7\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf3\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6394e9e337b246b4c315c5705ccb0983\">Level 3 processes are formally defined and documented as a standard operating procedure so that someone skilled without prior knowledge can successfully execute the process.<br>If we have many Level 3 processes that are well defined, often in standard operating procedures, we can consider ourselves lucky. The next step is to manage and optimize them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-77bb3ebefcdda9b8fa62d17539ecea09\">\ud835\udddf\ud835\uddf2\ud835\ude03\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf9 \ud835\udff0 \u2013 \ud835\udde0\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddee\ud835\uddf4\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ba3ede2e33a86192442e76eaf33cb570\">Level 4 processes are managed through process\u00a0metrics, controls, and\u00a0analysis\u00a0to identify and address areas of opportunity. The next step is the\u00a0continuous improvement\u00a0of the processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ab4bddca6e00a12d02a6972884d3ffe5\">\ud835\udddf\ud835\uddf2\ud835\ude03\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddf9 \ud835\udff1 \u2013 \ud835\udde2\ud835\uddfd\ud835\ude01\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddfa\ud835\uddf6\ud835\ude07\ud835\uddf6\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddf4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9cd9af341775f55d9e4c634c2d841888\">Level 5 processes are optimized using the necessary diagnostic tools and feedback loops to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes through incremental and step-function improvements and innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-86ff4574a699b7ef651941703f95f55c\">In our next blog, we will dive deep into how to use the Process Maturity Level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Organizations are made up of hundreds and often thousands of processes.
